Seems the old girl may have used up her nine lives. Thorpe'y has used the last one, Albey Ziebel used one (explosion) and Wally used the first Seven.

Hi, the BEST DUGONG UNDERWATER PICTURE is indeed fantastic. We are running a campaign against marina developments which threaten our local dugong population in the Great Sandy Strait / Tin Can Inlet area.

I was wondering whether you would mind if we used the photo on our web site and Facebook page. We will acknowledge the source.

Thanks, Carole

I'm from Kapingamarangi so I have seen this picture before in the 1990s yeah some where around then when I was small. So anyway, who is that guy at the back of the plane? Did you know that there's an airplane that landed on one of the islands in Kapingamarangi and is still there today, not the whole airplane but the plane was rusty and it crampled down into pieces so only few bits are left. I could tell you where it is now. Here it is - if you where on the two main islands where people live, get a canoe and ride to the second last island in the north on the beach, and that's where the airplane landed.

Do you have any other photos of this airplane and any details about the ground on the reef?.. Would it be possible to get copies for my archives...I have spent the last 10 years collecting every bit of historical information about the Albatross that I can find and documenting the history of the airplane.

Thanks

These FathomOz photos are beautiful - a nostalgic look at the Australian diving/spearfishing scene in the 1960's & 1970's. Keep it up, John.

Seems a pretty fair summary of the situation. The great truth is that I was kept well away from the editorial and the design. And the photography. This was a policy pursued on all the magazines I was associated with. In this case it was particularly appropriate in that I could not skin dive.
What is not mentioned is that John Harding ethically fought for the right to refuse anything to do with spear guns and underwater carnage. He may have been slightly before his time in this but he was absolutely in the right.
